Hello,
I'm new to the forum as well as new to WWII diorama building. I've been making dioramas in other areas for many years, but not for WWII. I look forward to my new learning experiences.
I have a diorama ethics question. Would a US soldier shoot/snipe a German officer who was riding in a jeep? I know that might sound like a stupid question, but I don't want to build a diorama that would not be realist.
Thanks for your opinions.
JohnT

I cannot for the life of me see why not. Allies used snipers just as any army has since the rifles bullet was introduced. Officers have always been a favoured target.
The only question I would have is showing something on the scale of a long shot a sniper would be setting up, but as for an ambush, blast away.
Eric.

Taking out the 'head' of the snake is always a wise thing to do, normally if you take out the officer and senior NCO(s,) the standard grunt only knows the immediate operation point A to point B. But knowing that there is nothing wrong with the diorama thought you have.

Thanks for the replies and I agree. I wanted to make sure it was realistic.
Also, since I'm new at this, I don't recognize this uniform. Any help would be appreciated. See photo below.
Thanks,
JohnT

Your idea sounds perfectly normal to me. The image you posted is of an american infantryman in the earlier part of the war,say up to a few months after the Normandy invasion.

Hi John,
welcome to the asylum!!
The photo shows a US infantry soldier of WW2 in the 1942 uniform in use until late 1944.
The shoulder patch belongs to the 2nd Inf. Div. nicknamed also "Warrior Division" or "Indianhead Division" (guess why! ).
Its proud motto is "Second to None"
Hope that answers your question!
Cheers
Romain
P.S.: The only tricky bit for your diorama could be the "distance". Snipers would probably not operate at minimum distance, but that's more or less the size of a diorama. So a "normal" ambush seems more logical IMHO!

Thanks so much for the welcomes and answers. Man, y'all are sharp! I wonder if I'll ever learn; it's quite overwhelming.
Also, is there a setting where I an receive emails when someone answers my post or do I have to check each time?

I'm not an admin nor an expert (so correct me if I'm wrong ), but there are 2 different ways to communicate here:
1) in the open (so to speak), i.e. on the thread, or else
2) over PMs (Personal Messages)
in both ways you would have to check if a message has come in.
Cheers

I understand what you mean.
You want to know if there is a setting that will inform you "via email" when someone answer's this post.
I am not sure.

Very simple at the bottom or top right side of this page you will see a option to subscribe to the topic. This will send you an alert E mail every time someone replies to your post.
(oops already answered)

(Am I the only one with troubles I didn't see half of the postings here and for some reason the home page only loads the adds and nothing else.
