Awesome kit. Camo scheme excellent. Great build. I have one of these just waiting to be built. Great inspiration to actually open the box and begin this kit.

Thanks...if you gents do build it, i would recommend using Arylics to paint the tracks or going with metal tracks. The enamel paint contributed to the issues with the Meng's tracks. Cheers!

Great looking build but isn't it based on a T72 not a BMP.

The write up is flawed, it's based on the T-72/90 and the Russians designed it not the Soviets.

Alright gents this quick right up was not meant to go over the entire development/modification of the BMPT. But since some people have a need to be critical, here it is. The need for the modification came about the short falls of the BMP-1 and BMP-2 during Soviet’s war in Afghanistan late 80’s early 90’s and Grozny in 1994. To put it in a nut shell, the T-72 chassis was ideal to use as part of the modification to enhance the BMPT survivability to support their tank units. There were several prototypes over the years which we see now as the end product deployed with the Russian Army.
So Tom, your question is partly correct, the use of the T72 chassis was part of the modification, but they used and modified the armament of the BMP-3 to give them the vehicle we see today. As for Mr. DerGeist, my intent and information was based on the when the Russian were still known as the Soviets back in the 90’s. So no, my simple little right up was not flawed, it was not meant to be a full educational article. I will stand corrected though, I realize I should have said decades instead of years ago referring to the time frame “The Soviets” known at that time realized the short falls with the BMP design.
However, I’m always willing to learn from others when they are willing to teach and share information or ask question like Tom did. Since you are fellow modeler try sharing you knowledge to educate then down right ridiculing. Don’t make assumption without knowing the whole story first or at least asking questions.

I'm aware of the various Soviet prototypes leading up the BMPT as we know it currently. My answer was referring to only the BMPT, which as far as I was aware was a post-Soviet Union design that came about after the experiences in the first Chechen war. Sorry if my answer was curt, in my defense I shouldn't post if I'm too tired to write a meaningful post.

Hi CJ;
The T-72 and the T-90 use the same engine, one Question that you mite consider is that the Engine Bay mite be Different between the Two Vehicles. The Internal Layout mite be Slightly Different, and as Far as I know we haven't seen the engine Bay on the BMPT as of yet. Now if you really don't care about Accuracy then Give It A Shot, and there are several options that you mite consider. Verlinden makes Two sets of engines. one is just A drop in Module and is Very Basic and the other is A Complete Engine that will require some work; but is A Excellent kit ! Or You Could Purchase the Excellent Meng T-90 and "Rob" the Engine !!
