There are a number of things you can use.
The first is clear sheet styrene from plastruct or evergreen. Cut it to shape then etch out your broken shapes and snap it apart or just cut it appart and glue it in place.
You can also go inexpensive and use the clear plastic from food containers or small electronic parts or toys (blister packs).
I am going to try something a bit different soon - I ended up with string of useless clear chirstmas tree lights this year and I saved a bunch of the bulbs. I'm going to break them and use them on the ground in the debris.

Hi !!
I have to agree with slodder, i have used clear plastic from candy boxes, food containers and stuff like that. The only thing that matters, is that it should strong not the kind of plastic bags are made of. Anyway i am happy with the results.
For broken glass i cutted the plastic to irregular shapes and used the white glue to put them in place.
Good luck with your dio. :-)

I'd sugest using microscope slide covers. The covers are small and thin, perfect for any scale and can be purchased at science surplus stores. To get the broken look, just stick the cover into a plastic bag, hit it lightly, and place the broken pieces as you wish. Personally, I haven't tried this but I read about it in Finescale Modeler magazine, so it must be good! Hope this helps!

I'll second that suggestion. I always use slide covers and they work perfectly. I get mine from the lab tech at my doctor's office. Good luck.

Also you may want to check out the colored glass section next time your in hobbylobby or micheals, they have blanks for use in making fake leaded glass, they also come in different thickness. you can score them with a hobby knife and they snap and break like glass. hope this helps
