I'm working on procuring detail parts for the Challenger 1. I know of Accurate Armor and was wondering if there were any other companies producing parts for this tank.

Hi Matt,
In addition to AA's update and conversions sets, Castoff do a small update/conversion set as well, and even though it is for a Mk.II, most parts can be used for the Mk.III as well.
If you want to replace the kit gun barrel, you can buy the AA Chieftain resin barrel.
Fruil and/or Spade Ace models make replacement tracks in white metal and of course Eduard offers an etched set.
Hope this helps,
Sven

I had intended to replace the barrel, with the one for the Chieftan. I already have some Friuls and will be ordering $100 of styrene stock. I'll do some checking into Castoff. I did not realize that the Chall 1 and 2 had interchangeable parts.

Hi Matt,
I am not a true expert on the Chally, but my understanding regarding the Castoff set is that the parts included are pretty generic and most are useable on Mk.III as well as Mk.II. Perhaps somebody with more expertice can shed more light on this.
The Castoff set includes, amongst other things, a corrected rear turret stowage box.
Cheers,
sven

I will be building a mk.III. This is going to be an immense build, with all the bells and whistles.

Sweet, I look forward to following this one, Matt!
Jim, I am not really following you in your post. I was aware of the Chally 1 and 2 and various marks thereof - what was the lesson? :-)

You really want to get the Bob Griffin books on the Challenger from Kagero, excellent reference and cheap for what you get. I'd suggest Vol 2 for a 1 Mk 3

Sorry Sven, not directed at you. Thought there was some confusion regarding the Mk.2 vs. Challenger 2. Just pointing out that there are Mk.2 and Mk.3 versions of the Challenger 1.
Cheers,
Jim

I have tons of reference material, already. But, thank you for the suggestion. I have even located a full build log, including detailed schematics to accurize the Challenger. I will be using this as my main reference and have decided on the specific tank I wish to represent. I've been planning this one for some time.

I can't help thinking that someone planning a massive scratchbuilding project for a Challenger 1 should know that there are different versions?
Just a wonder...
