I am working on an idea for a Russian convoy trudging through the mud (Gaz-AAA, horses and cart, Gaz-67?, and soldiers), and I was wondering what kind of fuel cans (jerrycanns?) the russians used? Did they have their own, or did they use ones provided by the U.S.? I seem to come up empty on research, and any help you guys could give would be great.
Thanks,

Doug,
I think you would be safe using both US and German Jerry cans. All sides used anything they could pick up. In fact, at one point the US had a jerry can shortage (early in the war) and made an effort to take every german jerry can they could get thier hands on. Also, I'm sure we provided hundreds or even thousands of jerry cans to the Russians thru lend lease.

hi it all depends on the time scale , early on they had the same size and type as the british flimsy , then they produced a round can with ribbing on the sides , with a simple screw top for pouring fuel out and a pressed handle on top , only when they captured german cans did they use them , american cans were only used with the lease lend equipment and very few british made gerry can go there as we could not produce enough for our selves . later on after the war they removed the original german presses to russian and altered the centre panel to include a russian logo and lettering in cyrilic to denote the fuel and capacity , hope this helps cheers ian
