You didn't mess up. You followed Revell's instructions. Revell messed up. But I guess you are right, there are so many variations that "anything goes". As for my model. I will follow the pictures and not the instructions.

Base color ready. Working on masking:
Lighting was very bad giving it a grayish tone. But I used the Vallejo ISAF color set.

Done with the green:
Although I used the Vallejo ISAF colors I feel the green a bit dark when compared to actual photos. I will use a couple of filters and maybe a little old fashioned dry brushing.

Thanks Marco.. About building it w/o AM the kit is ok. The PE for the interior cannot be fully appreciated. I thought about building it with the removable top, but the lousy fit would just not allow it. Check out Olivier's build, he did it without AM and looks great. Just be very careful with the painting instructions, which are wrong. Check photo sources on internet to be sure. The exterior AM PE does add to the vehicle. Cheers!

I saw Olivier's Dingo and you're right. He did a great job w/o any AM parts.
Cheers!

I just realized that the colors in the instructions are reversed!
Olivier followed the instructions to the T and ended up like this:
But the real vehicle should look like this:
The olive is switched with the brown!
Another BooBoo for Revell
Taking a quick look through the pics on the net and a saw quite a few Dingos with the brown instead of the green dominating camo pattern.
To me it looks like the guys in the field had a better understanding of which colors make more sense in such an environment then the desks warriors at the "Erprobungsstelle".
This one looks a lot more like Olivier's:

Nice builds never the less ... both of them

Christopher, did you find any other pictures with that same pattern. Because I have been searching and I have found many with the reversed pattern, the sand and brown pattern, but none like the one you found which is exactly the pattern Revell suggests.

From what I have seen on the web it looks like the sand and brown pattern was an earlier pattern, and at some point it was switched to the three color pattern with several variations in between. But maybe one of our German friends can share some light on the subject.

In the Flickr file in your link I found two more photos of that pattern, here is one:
And reversed:
and to make it more interesting, two more variants:

So as a conclusion, I quote Olivier: "painting a Dingo in Desert camouflage is really up to you". So there!
