Years after Tamiya came out with its T-55A kit, nobody seems to have come up with a T-54 yet. Or did they?

I believe Trumpeter released a T54 many moons ago.

Skif did a couple.. don't know much about their quality, though... I'm sure if we wait long enough, we'll see a new-tooled one by Trunpeter.. maybe?

Trumpeter's first tank kits were T-59-related tanks (T-59 was a Chinese clone of the T-54B), so they offered several T-54, T-55 and T-59 kits, sometimes in boxes of their Wasan or Minihobby subsidiaries. Unfortunately, the kits were crude, and designed to be motorized. The motors took up too much space for an accurate hull, so these tank models sit very tall, and the front and rear armor angles are off due to the too-deep hull. Early batches of the kits weren't even molded in polystyrene--they were ABS plastic, and had to be glued with superglue or Plastruct Plastic Weld cement, because ordinary styrene cement didn't affect it..
There are resin conversions out there to backdate Tamiya's T-55, but you need to do a bit of Googling.

PanzerShop used to have conversions for T-54A and T-54-B,
numbers PS35219 and PS35220 but they are not listed on the website anymore (didn't find them when I took a quick look anyway ...)
If you Google PS35219 you get some hits for ended auctions on ebay ....

New from inside the armor https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.735775226513695.1073741856.321848837906338&type=1
I'm guessing with a few part switch outs it would work as a standard T-54. Maybe they'll consider the standard model for future release.

I'd wait for Trumpeter or someone else to put out a new one. The old Trump and Skif kits are pretty horrible plan and simple.

Hi Guys;

If your Talking about A Later Mk; of the T-54, then you are correct. But for the Record the Early Mk; should be more Important, now the only Source for the early T-54 is Legend with there Conversion for the Tamiya T-55 as it gives you the Correct Turret with the Cut-out at the rear.
The Legend kit is Accurate and very Well Molded and is Worth the Price !!

Tank Workshop conversion for the Tamiya T-55 kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171021610647?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I suggest staying away from the Early Trumpeter T-54's and Skif's kits unless you want to deal with frustration.

I would love to see a new T54 in plastic. To backdate the Tamiya T-55 kit is a lot of work. The T-59 is based on the T-54A not the T-54B. Im working on the Legends Iraqi T-59 now and there is some extra work involved in making it accurate. The Cupolas from the Tamiya T-55 kit are for Late variants only and the T-59 has a different mantlet. The TWS set is for the T-54B and is basic at best.
