After spending over an hour looking at all the fine work in this dio, here's my take on it (FWIW). The buildings/base are really well done, with appropriate damage/rubble and weathering. BUT, the material for the curtains appears a bit thick. The PzIV looks really nice, BUT, the tracks could use a bit more bare metal showing on the cleats, especially after driving on city streets. The figures are really well painted and outfitted. BUT, the kneeling guy does not seem to have a sling on his rifle; the tank commander's cap looks a bit too big for his head; and the running figure just looks out of place to me. Where's he running from/to?? But the overall concept and execution are very nicely accomplished.

Well done. However, what am I supposed to be focusing on? I'm not sure if it the panzer, the piano or the running figure?

Really well done diorama, Pawel.

How did you weather the blue 'boulangerie' building?

Everything about this is wonderful and I want to see it forever. However, one aspect that really stuck out to me was the head wound all wrapped up. That bit looks just, well, real. That's a great Alpine figure on it's own but I love how you customized it. The open jacket on the running crewman looks great as well.

Great to see some new work from you!

Obg153, thanks for your constructive comment. You are right about the curtains – they are really to thick. They are made of green stuff. Tracks should have more silver look indeed. Kneeling guy have a sling on his mauser look carefully About tank commander cap… it’s a resin head, it’s weird indeed but I like it. That it is why I choose this head.
About the running figure. He is one of the panzer crew (look on his uniform) and he is running to a tank. Driver (btw I made him from green stuff as well as the commander and a rider) waves his hand to come faster.
Here you can find a workshop of this diorama but unfortunately it is in polish.

I do see some small problems here and there as has already been pointed out. But the overall effect of this dio is very very nice. It really does look like the unit has sprung into action at the news of the attacking enemy.
Lots of really nice work. Well done Sir!

Hi, Pawel, Hi guys
Nicely planned and executed... as already was pointed out, there are some small details that should be addressed. Besides what was mentioned before, it struck me that the soldiers' trousers are well weathered and worn out, while the jackets are out from the box... spotless... hm! Please do no take the observation with heavy heart... the diorama is awesome, one of the best I've seen lately. Thank you for sharing

Hi Pawel,

impressive dio overall! First impression is very good...and that's always important!!

I particularly love the damage to the Dubonnet house!! THAT looks terrific!!

I also love your electric wires running from the pole to the house!!

I watched your post together with a friend..and we both immedialely said that the curtains were UNPAINTED green stuff!! Guess we got that right!!!
Painting the curtains will not solve your problem though, as they are way to thick to react to wind o.s. They would just hang limp!

Your figure painting style is very good!! Your faces show character!

I love the 2 guys advancing in their oversized camo jackets! They are really nice!!

The tank driver is superb! so is the painting and converting on the guy running towards the tank. The fact that he does not look at other guys makes it hard to understand what he's actually doing. Eye-contact and/or a waving hand might have helped here.
This way he looks like doing a Kamikaze run on the tank!

A coherent interaction between the figures is definitely missing! A point that you might consider in future projects (and I hope for us that you will build many more dios...and keep us posted!!!!! )

The tank commander may be the weakest figure! This head looks like early war with his huge cap! In 44 the caps were smaller. Moreover, I tried to adopt his pose....and I had troubles with the angle of the left shoulder/arm! I admit I'm past the age to command a Panzer! ...but still, certain views do make him look awkward!

Smaller issues like the (definitely) too strong/vivid blue colour of the café or the too clean and green bottles on the piano add to the "negative" points.

All in all, it was a pleasure to see that there is a huge lot of talent over there!!

Well done Sir!

Cheers

Romain

Romain, thank you for your constructive critisism! I really appreciate that. You are right about the curtains – many people said the same. Now I would do them with lead foil I think.
About the running guy… My idea was to turn his head back, like he is looking back to see if the fight already begun or not. And the driver says “come on faster! We are going”. Maybe it is visible from different angle or maybe not.
Tank commander – the guy was meant to turn his head to the gunner to tell him something, or maybe only listen to what the gunner has seen through his binoculars.
Romain, now I am working on Ardennes scene, so I would post very soon.
Regards!

Hi Pawel,

if I may, I would suggest another way for the curtains. These would be veil curtains anyway, so a "thinner" approach might be better.

If you take the existing "prototypes" and cover them with aluminium oil, then soak a thin tissue (experiment with one layer only) in water+white glue and drape it over the lead foil.

When the tissue is dry, you can peel it off...et voilà!! A nice thin curtain for free!!

Try it, you'll like it!!

Cheers

Romain

Hi Pawel,

Your job is really awesome ! Of course, looking at such big job, it is possible to find some details to be improved. But the overall work is really great.

In particular, I like very much the WSS cavalryman. I cannot believe he and his horse are completely scratch built from nothing...

Really great. Thanks for posting

Giovanni, to be honest the horse was not built from zero. it was reworked old horse from warrios.
