Would the Trumpeter t-28 early that is available now be suitable to build as a Finnish tank? I notice the kit has the hand rails on the turret which seem to be absent on all the Finnish pics I saw. I wasn't sure if the kit could be built easily without them and if there were further differences. Thanks

Not sure, but if you search here with t-28, you'll get quite a few war time shots:

And surviving examples here:

Practically every tank that Finland captured had some mods made so it's difficult to get something completely accurate out of the box. I did a quick search on a Finnish site and nobody has mentioned much about this kit yet. I'm optimistic that it will be close because nobody has poo-poohed it as of yet.

AFAIK, these "hand rails" are the early horseshoe antenna of the T-28, later replaced with a whip antenna....

Ah ok...I thought they were handrails. Thanks for the links. I am starting to think that I wI'll need to wait for the Late version. Seems like the late has some additional armor in addition to the whip antenna.

According to Wikipedia the Finnish Parola museum tank is a T-28E with the applique armor. I would guess the T-28 early would be the T-28A (model 1934), the late version a T-28B (model 1938) with an applique T-28E to come?
Take it with a grain of salt.
Thanks for that Finnish archive website, finally pictures of the Finnish Vickers tanks for my Mirage kit. (yes someone actually builds them)
