So I just built my first model tank, a 1:35 early Tamiya Tiger.

I primered it then sprayed it with Tamiya Yellow. The actual finish turned out to be a little too orange and bold. So I sprayed it again, Tamiya yellow mixed with some pearl white.

This time the tone is more sandy but it has this gold sheen going on, even after it has dried. Is there anything I can do to dull this thing down?

Its only when you look closely that its sandy but has a gold tinge. Its that gold impression I want rid of.

I believe the colour you should have used from the Tamiya range is XF60 (it is the colour I use). in order to overcome this problem take the tracks off of your model and spray your model with with some foam oven cleaner and place it in a plastic bag overnight. That will remove all of the paint from the model, then wash and allow the model to dry before respraying with XF60.

I should have added that some paint may be stubborn and may require an old toothbrush to remove these areas.

I think I'll try the wash first. I have Tamiya Flat brown here. And Tamiya thinner. Any recommended percentages with a wash?

No..use mineral spirits & brown oil paint, don't use Tamiya thinner! Or buy some pre-made wash from MIG, AK or Vallejo.

Tamiya is an acrylic , unless you are talking about the small square bottle which are enamels . I think the thinner for that is X20 no A . What do we have here ?
