Hi Donald here, I'm starting a new thread on building the Spider SS-23 I reduced the picture resolution to 800 by 600 , this build is very picture heavy and takes too long to load.

The Build Is Continued Here.

The lower hull is now complete, except for the tiny little bits. I'll add them when the top and bottom are joined together.

Hi Hisham, I'm glad that you liked the build.
The kit isn't really that complicated, there is just a lot of small parts.
It's the instructions that STINK.
Come on HOBBY BOSS you can do better than this.

Looking good. I´m still contemplating whether to buy this kit or not. I just don´t like the vinyl tires. Does tires in this kit have any visible molding seams?

I want one of these, but only if DEF or somebody makes resin wheels.

I'm enjoying watching your build so far.

From the photos I've seen, the BAZ-6944 appears to use the same tires as the MAZ-543, which makes sense given the soviets' propensity for making systems as interchangeable as possible. If that really is the case, then wheels sets for the SCUD line, like Def Models', should work just fine.

Since you'r interested about the tires & wheels, here is some more information.

The wheels aren't keyed to a certain clock position so they can be rotated so the air filler stems are in varying positions.

There is a very fine seam down the center of the tire, it should sand off when roughing up the tread surface.

There are some fine numbers on the sidewall of the tires.

Here is the back side of the rear wheels.

There are oblong pegs that go into the wheel back for mounting the wheels.

Here is the front wheels, slightly different hole pattern so they don't get mixed up.

I'm sure that there will be after market wheels that will fit this kit, but the kit wheels aren't that bad.
I think that I'd rather spend the App. $30 on another kit.
This one lists for about $120 U.S. Thats a lot.

Donald,

Thanx for the photos, those tires actually look really nice, the main thing i worry about with vinyl/rubber tires in kits is deterioration. I have the Academy M48A5K, and the "rubber" potion of the road wheels had actually reacted to some of the sprues in the box, wrecking several parts. I'm replacing them with Legend's resin M48 wheels, but I'm nervous about it happening on other kits.

If you are going to replace the M48 wheels, DEF Models have a set of them out now. They also have the rear drive sprocket with the lightening holes, I got them from Spru Brothers.

I have just compared the resin wheels I have for the dragon MAZ 543 with my SS-23 tyres and can confirm they are not the same. The Scud wheels are approximately 44mm diameter, whereas the SS-23 tyres are about 35mm diameter.
If you worry about the tyre rotting the wheel, just make sure the area of the wheel that contacts the tyre is painted with enamel paint.

This is a great build Donald.. I may have to park my Kraz build just to make a start on this one??

I'm with you on that statement Donald. The kit parts are very nice indeed in my humble opinion...

For those of you with bad eye sight, you may not want to do the next parts.

There are 48 tiny brackets that have to be removed from the fret and bent to shape.

After bending them I placed them on a piece of wire supplied, 12 at a time and super glued them.

After the glue set I separated them.

Here is a size comparison to a U.S. Penny

I'm starting work on the missile next, The parts above will be installed after the top & Bottom are joined.

And Moving Along With The Build.

There is a fine seam to be filled after joining the top & lower Hulls together.

Next we have the addition of the tiny Pe. parts assembled earlier.
