I picked up this kit cheap as another inexpensive project to hone my skills on. However, other than one picture of a knocked out Stug IV in Normandy, I have not been able to find much information regarding its use: such as when it first went into service, units served with, did it have zimmerit and if so, what pattern, etc. Can anyone provide some reference info. on this AFV?

Hi kbm, Sturmgeschutz IV ( Sd Kfz 167 ) - Was produced by Krupp from Dec.1943 to Feb / March 1945
I'm not 100% sure if all StuG IV had Zimmerit but the one's that did had the standard "ridged "pattern. The StuG IV was used as battlefield fire support for infantry assaults ( enemy MG nests, bunkers, AFV 's ..... etc ) and also as a tank destroyer.
StuG IV's were issued to:
- Panzerjager & panzer abteilung of motorized infanterie - panzer - and panzergrenadier divisions.
- Independent StuG Brigades & Abteilung's.
HOPE THIS HELPS

Back before i had the internet here at home, my old lady looked up Stug IV service for me . From what i remember (it has been like 5 years), i believe they served with the 2nd and 9th PZ DVs. Any other PZ DVs and Stug Brigades, iam not sure.
I read the "History of Sturmgeshutz Battion 276, and they didn't mention any Stug IVs, at least that i remember ATM.
Good luck with your research!
