can you airbrush Vallejo model color paints or do you have to buy the Vallejo model air acrylics?

Yes you can you need to thin them down first.Model air just makes it so no or little thining is needed. I've used the model air right out of the tube.

I use both model Air and Color for airbrushing. Like PvtParts said, thin the Model Color before spraying. I use car screen-wash a a thinner in a ratio of about 60/40 Model Color to screen-wash.
my latest model has a base coat of dark yellow Model Color Ab'd on. Coma stripes of green and brown from the Model Air range over the top. Looked good to me. I'll post some pics later.
