Hi. The posting in the Junk Drawer of the destroyed Abrams has got me curious here. I've always felt that modelers who build a vehicle that has been destroyed in combat--no matter what the national origin of said vehicle is, or the time period inolved--have to really take a step beyond the normal way of modeling a vehicle, both in the scale of destruction they are trying to depict, and how to keep this 'scale' in perspective in the relationship to the vehicle and the 'story' that goes with it's fate.

My question here is, are their photos out there of any destroyed Allied vehicles from either ODS or OIF? Now I've heard that there were several 'kills' on the battlefield by friendly fire during ODS, in fact this was the main reason, so I've heard, for those vehicle ID. markers on the vehicles during OIF. And I'm sure there were hits made by friendly fire during OIF as well, despite the ID markers.

Now maybe this isn't a 'politically correct' subject to post here at this current historical time, but it would be interesting to see some photos of Allied equipment in this state in order to get a somewhat better perspective on the subject of destroyed armor of all nations involved in this time period. If for nothing else that to remind us that any vehicle--no matter how well made, designed, and protected, can still be taken out, given the right set of circumstances, by either side of the combatant line.

I'm merely looking at this from an historical, and modeling perspective and nothing more, one way or the other.

Take care, Sgirty

Hi sgirty-

Here are a few pics that I got off of a thread on Missing Lynx a while back...

I hope these help out a bit :-)

Hi. Wow. Talk about some major destruction. I see that the third and fourth photos here must be the ones the modeler did they were talking about in the Junk Drawer section. Thanks a whole lot. I'll have to check out the Missing Lynx site.

Take care, Sgirty

I just found this site the other day, click on the link and do a search under "iraqi tanks", you will get over 700 hits, including many shots of the destroyed Abrams. I was pretty impressed.

apart from the ones shown which made the news I dont really think these sorts of pictures
will be released by the forces as it might show a weak spot in the tank and may be used as propaganda against them also as a few were knocked out because of blue on blue
they dont want show whats happens to the public as this is a bit of a sore point over here
at the mo as to why blue on blue still happens
