Hi Folks, As the title says, how can I simulate a bullet strike at the moment of impact on a stone wall?
All ideas very, very welcome!
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Check out this thread by my buddy Jerry:

Armorama::Dioramas::Ardennes - Another one!

He's replicated this effect as well as it's ever been done.

Jer's likely to chime in here, though, so maybe he'll post up some happy-snaps of the completed work.

Happy modeling!

Agreed. Jerry has done the only moment of impact bullet strike on a wall that I'm aware of. It's well worth a look.

Mike, Paul,
Thanks guys, the pics show exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the text as to how it was done?
Jerry old buddy, I could really do with you spilling the beans here and letting me into your secrets
All the best,
Gary.

OK,
Secrets revealed.
Here is the culprit.

I started by chipping a small ding in the corner of the wall. I tried to save the pieces chipped off but they were too microscopic so I made some plaster bits and stuck them on the ends of narrow gauge brass rod. I drilled small holes in the gauged area and stuck the brass rod pieces in. I then painted the parts very carefully to blend into the wall color but kept them light, for contrast.
Stretched pieces of cotton from a swab were then glued to the area of the brass rod between and betwixt the plaster bits and the wall. That part took a bit of trail and error.
Much harder to see are the blobs of mud from 20mm strikes on the ground. I have to work on that technique some more.

HTH bubba,
No tricks, just cheap, low-tech stuff,as usual from this old grunt.

Just what I need, Jerry! Would never have thought of using brass rod. Will be stealing this idea shamelessly
Thanks for sharing, mate. Very much appreciated!
All the best,
Gary

I love the way you used cotton strands to create the effect. Sweet. Great tip.
