What happened to this FMBT tank design as seen on the DISCOVERY CHANNEL? (Scroll to the middle of the page).
http://www.g2mil.com/g2gems2001.htm
I recall someone said on a forum that it was tested, forgotten and ignored, rediscovered, and then shipped somewhere (perhaps Fort Knox) and then never seen again. Since a lot of US Army canceled programs end up as rustbuckets in a field, is the HD-40 tank prototype rusting away somewhere?
It is said to be the precursor to the Crusader SPH and Future Combat System where the crew sits in the hull.
This is the only FMBT prototype design that I know of, and was shown on television.
I already asked the Army through their official channels...no reply yet.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I don't read Russian, but seems like there's some info on the HD-40 to at least be a genuine prototype.
Does anyone know who made the HD-40? Was it General Dynamics Land Systems or United Defense?

Moved to Ft Benning. I just saw a Youtube of a train load of vehicles for the base's museum. A T-28, m103 and others.

Thanks. That kind of looks like it, but not quite. Wow, what a rust bucket!
Interestingly, I didn't see any XM8 AGSs in the video.

If you were talking about the "Rust Bucket" towards the end, that is the M1 Tank Test Bed (TTB) vehicle from the mid 1980's. Unmanned 120mm armed turret and a three man crew in the hull.
The Armor Museum did not have an AGS in its inventory at Ft Knox nor did I see one in 2013 at Ft Benning.
