Hi all,
Here's another old review item I finally finished. Got this one started for some long past campaign I can't remember and finally finished it today. The plan is for the Shermie to finally go onto an Academy Dragon Wagon somewhere along the way...
DML's M4A1 76/W Sherman and Jeep
Any comments very welcome!
Cheers!
Stefan

Stefan,
Welcome back to the one and true scale. Looks like you got nice clean builds of the Sherman and Jeep. Nice job too on the Sherman’s PE. Definitely not for the uninitiated but well worth the effort for the difference. Paint looks good and I must say, I always like a Sherman in camo as opposed to plain O.D.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers,
Jan

Beautiful looking builds Stefan. I'm with Jan on the two-tone camo for the Sherm, something different. I've never been a big fan of the Sherman but after watching "Fury" a few weeks ago, I think I'll get a few for my stash. Thanks for posting!

Some reviewers/modellers claimed this jeep was actually, or closer to, 1/76 scale. Have you checked this for yourself?

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, pretty happy with how the camo turned out.
Biggles, have not checked myself, however, Mk.I Eyeball conversion with the olf Matchbox 1/76 jeep seems to suggest it's bigger than Matchbox. Now how accurate is Matchbox?

While I do not regularly dwell on scale accuracy in a review, the builder should note that there has been some discussion on various sites as to this kits’ true scale. After checking numerous sources, the one consistent dimension that I found was that the original vehicle has an 80” (203.2 cm) wheelbase. Taking calipers to the model I found the model wheelbase to be 1.091” (27.7 mm). For 1/72 scale, the numbers should calculate out to 1.11” or 28.2 mm. Obviously from these dimensions, the vehicle can be considered marginally undersized. This is also supported by the fact that the .50 Cal machine guns provided in previous Dragon kits are slightly larger than that in this kit.
Cheers,
Jan

The Dragon jeep is significantly smaller than the Airfix/Heller 1/72 jeep! I'm more than happy to accept it as 1/76!

But how do you know the Heller/Airfix jeep isn't 1/70 scale?

I don't (and can't be bothered to measure them up). But I've seen more suggestions on the web that the Dragon one is too small for 1/72 than I have suggestions that the Airfix/Heller one is too big! And a lot of suggestions that these two are the best jeep models around in Braille Scale
Maybe it is just because I wanted a nice 1/76 jeep!

Is the old Airfix jeep really that good? I know many (most!) of their other 1/72 kits were wildly inaccurate, but they were great to play with when I was a kid! What about Academy's jeep?

I do not think anyone was referring to the old (1/76) Airfix jeep that came with the LVT; the much newer 1/72 version (shared with Heller) is reckoned to be one of the best braille scale jeeps going.

0.5mm? It is true that a Jeep in this scale is tough to have looking right, with that windscreen bracket and the steering wheel being so on display and hard to get to scale thickness.
Anyway, I agree, very nice Sherman Stefan.
