Since I had to resupply my paint, I went with humbrol enamel.
For the 1/72 figures I am doing its working well, but I came with the following problem when I started working on an armor.

Enamel needs thinner in order to flow well in an airbrush, and unfortunatly its -20 celsius here and I cant open windows and the vapors too strong inside. So I want to switch to acrylic. since I already have a coat of paint, will it cause any problems?

I used enamel or acrylic, but never tried both. Otherwise I will have to wait until spring to paint my tank!

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, but here goes: You can't mix enamel and acrylic paints together. If you are trying to put a coat of acrylic over enamel or vice versa, it will work as long as the bottom coat is completely dry. If you are concerned about paint fumes when spraying, you should invest in an organic filter mask. Even when spraying acrylics, you don't want to inhale any of that stuff. Hope this helps.

Using an airbrush, you should have no problems with this. I have airbrushed laquer over acrylic, enamel and oil without a problem. Acrylic is even less a problem than laquer. The only potential issue would be if the acrylic is too thin and the pressure too high, you may get pooling. But it you get good ceverage on scrap plastic, you'll get good coverage on enamel.

For that matter, you won't have a problem brushing acrylic over enamel once the enamel have dried adequately.

I have found in the past that enamel over acrylic works well but a heavy coat of acrylic over enamels is prone to lifting.

thanks. So as long as the first coat is dry I should be ok.

I already have a mask, but since I am doing everything in the kitchen I cant ask my wife to wear a mask too.
But I remembered we had a system at school with a small half box and a pipe that would suck soldering fumes and filter them. Has anyone seen that somewhere for sale?

As long as the bottom coat is fully dry...then you should be ok.

Any acrylic give it 24hrs....and pretty much any oil/enamel/lacquer, give it at least 72hrs to fully dry and you should be ok....

You can then go over the bottom coat with whatever you want.
