This is my first post. I just bought both versions of Tasca's Panzer Luchs. I want to build both of them to represent the 4. Panzer Division. The one kit with the additional armor is not an issue. But on the late version I can't find a good reference of one of the replacements that the unit received. Turret number and camo scheme. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

The best source for Pz Div 4 info and photos that I have actually seen up close are the two Concord Military Series pubs on 4 PD. Both have pics of those Pz II Luchs - both early and later production. These will be the sources I look to when I do one of those Tasca Luchs!

There are of course some other pics of the type in service, but both the vehicles and pics thereof are / were rare.

Thanks Bob. My next question. Color of the markings? Some say red. Some say black. I ordered Echelon's decals for 4. Panzer Division(351004). I can use the white '35' for a late model. But for the early version I'm caught between which color is accurate. What do you think?

Ron;

OK... Turret numbers...

The earlier 4. PD Luchs apparently had 1- and 2-digit turret numbers in red with black borders; at least so it appears in some of the few photos I've seen of 4 PD Luchs(Robert Michulec's first Concord vol, 4.Pz. Div on the eastern front (1) shows number 11, 12, 14, and 17, I think - all in red/black over camo. The winter white Luchs seen in that vol have no clearly visible numbers). There was, however, at least one Luchs which at one point had a solid white "1" on dunkelgelb-based camo, so...

It also seems that some later Luchs came with solid black 4-digit numbers, while others apparently had red w/ white border 4-digit turret numbers. Surviving museum Luchs have either solid black or red and white. These may, however, have been Luchs from 9. PD (which, like 4. PD, also had a full recon company of Luchs), or survivors from the western front, where some few served.

I cannot rule in or out the possible numbers you might work from, although as I said, earlier 4. PD Luchs (and maybe all of them through mid-1944 with 4. PD) had 2-digit numbers. I have seen no pics which clearly show a 4-digit number on a 4. PD Luchs...

Cheers!

Thank you Bob. I just started on the "late version" Luchs last night. I'm waiting on some decals from Echelon for Panzer IV and Luchs for the 4. Panzer Division. I'm thinking of doing one in a worn winter whitewash and battle hardened and the other one fresh to the front. I think it would be cool having them contrast.
