Hi all,
I guess I am back to AFV modelling after a long break since 2010.
I am working on the Trumpter E100, the narrower turret kind (not Maus turret).
How can I mix decent primer red for German AFVs using Tamiya colours...I just need some tips on tried and tested methods, I guess I am kinda getting old to do trial-and-error.
Thanks in advance
Kiong

Well Red Oxide primer really is red, a dull red. For some reason, a lot of guys have represented it as US automotive primer brown, which it is not. A lot of guys use Tamiya Hull Red right out of the bottle, which makes life easier. Another good dull red is Vallejo Model Air 084 Fire Red. Despite it's name, it's not vivid.
Also, Ammo of Mig Jimenez makes an excellent color, A.MIG-920 Red Primer Base, and they make darker and lighter shades of the color if you choose to do color modulation.
All German WWII vehicles were primed in Red Oxide Primer, except for vehicles made by Daimler. Daimler used a Zinc Oxide Primer whose color was classic Light Grey Primer.

You should try Modelmaster Acryl Burnt Sienna #4607. I think it is perfect for Red Oxide Primer. Hand brushes really well with a bit of Windex on your brush.

The closest I have found is Floquil Red Oxide Primer. However, you are wanting an acrylic.
