Hey guys,

ummm, well, i purchased Academy's IDF M60A1 Blazer

i loved the kit, it was an enjoyable build, anyway, i waslooking in one of my old military modelling mags and read the review on this kit and how the guy painted it, i used humbrol paints as the review told me,

these were matt 93, desert sand fo the camouflage, and 127 olive drab i think it is for the dark green undercoat. I sprayed the undercoat, and after it had dried, i washed it with a sponge and applied salt to the model, so i could spray the camoflauge over the top of the OD and simply chip off the paint when the salt was rubbed off.

well to tell the truth, i aint happy with the results, my tank simply looks to shiny in some places and even a bit to yellow, the article said to spray the paint in thin viels, but i think i must of over done it, i was thinking about spraying over it with a lighter grayish colour to tone the yellow down,or applying an oil wash to tone down the colours, what would you do???

and just for the record, i dont like humbrols at all, i'd rather use tamiya acrylics, but, being a fool i decided to go humbrol and follow the magazine article word for word. Would you be able to tell me if there is alternative way of painting my M60A1.

thank you

If you want to stick with humbrol i would use No 72, a better match in my opinion,it will also be good for the drybrushing (lightend)

For acrylic i would recomend Life Color UA 035 "israeli Sand gray 1982" or in FS 36134

I didnt manage to find a good match using tamiya colors - yet

I would agree with Eran and use Life Color UA 035 "Israeli Sand gray 1982." The color matched a paint chip that I got off of a M51 Batch 4 Sherman in the Patton Museum Collection at Ft Knox. When I sprayed my MaGaCh 6 BG, I thinned the Lifecolor paint with isopropyl alcohol and it worked fine.

As mentioned if you want to stick with oils you can either use Humbrol 72 or Model Master Israeli Armour Sand grey (f). I use the latter or Tamiya Khaki as a base and then shade follwed by pastels.. I'm not sure but you might need to strip the kit if you plan on refinishing with acrylics.
