I think they were called Thoma Screens. Not sure however.

Not like this before! It was quite common on russian vehicles to have engine and turret mounted "schurzen" like this ........ to protect against molotov cocktails and the like!
Looks very cool though and would make a nice, simple scratch build for something different!

I've seen that in a number of references. DML includes this in their intermediate Panzerjager IV.

yes, wire was used as schurzen becuase of metal shortages, or sometimes none at all.

My DML PzKpfw IV Ausf. J comes with wire schutzen. Yes, believe it or not, I do own several DML German armor kits.

Actually, I have built a DML German armor kit before. I'm also working on an Alan PzKpfw II Ausf. C that apparently is the same kit as the DML DAK PzKpfw II C but without the tropical fittings. I was actually waiting to decide whether I really wanted to spend money on Fruil tracks for the PzKpfw IV or if I wanted to torture myself with the DML PzKpfw IV tracks. My hat's off to the guys who make the DML PzKpfw IV tracks look good on a kit.Quoted TextYes, believe it or not, I do own several DML German armor

These screens are as effective against shaped charge warheads (bazooka, panzerfaust, RPG), as solid metal and more efficient for material used and weight.

It is typical for PZ IV J and it's derivatives to have wire schurzen.

Eduard does a photo etched set of these I believe it is set 35201 Mesh screens for PZKF IVJ. They list schurtzen for the same vehicle as set 35341 or 35342 (Italarie or Tamiya) so you may want to check out those three sets to find what you want

Going into Berlin the Russians welded steel bed frames with wire springs(the underwire not actuall springs) to the turret and engine deck to attempt to defeat the Panzerfaust. I will have to look for some Photos on line.
