I have a problem lately with my painting. The paint is coming out of the airbrush both spitting and running watery, leaving the primed surface in a mess basically.
I haven't changed anything in my mixing or painting process.
At first I thought it was the brush, so I cleaned it thoroughly and steeped it in hot water. That didn't work. Today with a new brush, whistle-clean, I get the same problem.
So I figure its down to my compressor (Expo compressor). My work area is in the garage which isn't heated, and it has been colder recently. Could this perhaps be something to do with this problem?
I have a moisture trap, but I'm not 100% sure how its supposed to be used. If I add it on the line before the airbrush at any point, it chokes the flow of air to the point of being unusable.
Any ideas?

Get a new moisture trap. Turn your compressor on, without attaching it to the airbrush. Any moisture should spray out.

T tried heating up the compressor and running it with just the moisture trap fitted for a while.
Problem still there. Very little paint coming out and what does is spitting goo or a fine mist, almost like a filter.
The moisture trap just had a few wet bubbles accumulate inside after about an hour running.

Do you use any kind of an air accumulator tank with the compressor?

Try just spraying water through your airbrush and see how that works. What paint are you using? What ratio of paint and thinner?

Almost sounds like a problem I had recently, turned out to be a split in the nozzle. Replaced it, and back to working just perfect again.
