I'm trying dot filtering for the first time today on a 1/35 Tiger I. Unlike some vehicles, there are clear distinctions between horizontal and vertical services on the Tiger because it's so boxy. I'm done doing dot filtering on the vertical surfaces, and of course now those parts look much more weathered than the horizontal surfaces.
So, do I apply dot filtering to the horizontal surfaces too? It seems counterintuitive to me because, while the vertical streaks make sense on vertical surfaces, it seems like it wouldn't look natural on the vertical surfaces. Maybe just a wash on the horizontal surfaces using the same colors?

Use a circling, swirling motion on horizontal surfaces. A stippling motion also works well.
