Hey gang, here are my questions:
1. Does anyone have detailed pictures of an actual T-34 engine? I would like to see how it was wired.
2. What color would it be? Is the usual metallic gray OK?
3. What color would the engine compartment itself be?

That should get you started - I hope this helps a little Marty - I'm no T-34 expert....
Perhaps others will chime in?

I have the old MB Models V2 engine kit and it has fairly extensive instructions. Under "Painting," this is what it says:
"Soviet engine interiors were not painted or finished in any way, but sometimes the upper louvered panels were sprayed Soviet green. Normally, these areas along with the rest of the engine compartment were left their natural cast metal color (the transmission housing was sometimes a lighter aluminum color), which typically would be subject to the effects of dirt, grease, diesel fuel and general battelfield grime. Heavy black washes over dark gray will enhance this effect. Finish with subtle dry brushing with a metallic gunmetal color."
Hope this helps.

Marty,
Also check out the new T34 book from Armageddon:

I have just got this and is has an excellent series of pics of the engine and transmission. Currently I am detailing up an ARMO late T34 engine and gbox for my BTT. As soon as I have some pics I will post them on the RRB.
