Just as I'm checking the Forums, a loud sound comes from the closet. A quick head turn reveals an orange small feline dashing from the closet, and a closer examination shows two boxes on the floor that previously occupied the very top shelf. Spread across the closet floor are the remains of the (of course) recently completed M88 and the freshly detailed M48A5. Parts everywhere, broken axle stubs (won't support tracks after that carnage),,,
Shy of drawing the ire of folks like PETA, are there any recommendations for a cat foster family? It's too soon to decide what to do with the models. I'm just glad I did not buy the resin interior for the M88!!

Jim
I'm sorry to here about the crash The problem with cats is that they can climb. My ex-wife is a cat lover and I had many similar problems with the evil beasts. Other than closing the doors its hard to keep a cat out of somewhere it wants to be Sorry I can't be of more help. My only advise is ditch the cat and get a dog.Good luck fixing the damaged kit.

Donate the cat to a nice Chinese family that owns a restaurant. Then get a dog. They love trips to the hobby shop.

Use a closed box for your models and store it........ON THE FLOOR.
If you can't change behaviour (and you rarely can) change the environment.
And to all of you guys that are triggerhappy on cats ..... relax.

Hi. Learn to keep the closet door shut. Have three cats here and have no problem with them bothering any of my models. My wife and I have just learned to keep the house, 'cat safe.' A little extra for-thought keeps the house hold happy and contented.
Take care, Sgirty

Dogs can also cause a lot of damage Or actually dog+mother combination. When I was a kid, I already had a nice collection of models built. Some of the best were on the bookshelf on a shelf about two feet above the floor. Of course it was never a problem, as dogs usually do not try to get on shelves. But my mother decided to play with the dog in my room and started to throw a tennis ball around my room. You can imagine expression on my face when I saw a ball, and a moment later a 40 pound dog, landing in the middle of the mentioned shelf...
My mother was banned from entering my room for several weeks after that. Dog was found not guilty

Red Foreman (Kirkwood Smith) said it best on the TV show "That 70's Show". "Best case scenario, you get the smartest cat in the world, and it still craps in your house."

Oh ye single minded ones.
To fix the axle stubs,If the part the roadwheel goes on is broken off, drill a hole through the torsion bar arm,and into the axle.Put a brass rod through this to pin it.
If the torsin bar arm is snapped, drill up the arm,and pin it that way.Small bits can be SG on again.
As for the cat.Are there Coyotes in your neck of the woods?

Well knowing that cats climb on everything, what were you thinking of storing your completed kits up somewhere that a cat could get and know over???
This can't be the first time your cat has climbed on something.
I have a cat here...and he climbs on everything...but I know this, so mostly everything is cat proof....he just can't get up on my shelves that my models sit on. All he manages to do is get on my computer desk and steal pens and AA batteries
The rest of my model bench is in the basement....where he can't get at them.

I personally hate most cats. The only one I tolerate is my sisters because that is one mean cat. If he doesn't like you he'll literally get in your face and yowl at you. Me he likes. So, I think I've heard most advice from one source or other. Killing is called animal cruelty and you can be prosecuted in this country for that. You could donate to good home or local animal shelter, but if you've got kids or wife you can hang that idea up. Of course substituting a dog for the cat would work, but they themselves are a lot of work, but IMHO the payback s 1000 fold. You can glass case your models but that is $$$. Keeping closet door is cheap and requires a little training on your part. Just make sure you close it after checking every time. Good luck and I think tank carl gave some good ideas on how to repair your creations.

There are two ways I taught my cat not to stick her paws where they don't belong:
1. Every time I would see her try to do something evil I would immediately spray her with a little bit of water from a spray bottle. Man, she hated that!
2. I put orange or lemon rinds in areas difficult to reach with my 'water cannon'. Cats generally hate citrus sent and will stay away from any place that smells like a fruit cocktail.

Sorry to hear the news buddy, I have 2 cats myself. I got a bit lucky that 1 of them is a fat lazy one and doesn't move if her ass was on fire. Her sister though is more adventurous. After going through the same experience (my model was an F-16C), I decided to keep and lock my closet. As for the models on my shelves, I did a daring thing, I picked up my cats one at a time i showed them the models on the shelf, I let them look, they seen that there was no food or goodies up there for them, I got lucky i guess.
I hope you get good results with whatever you try. By the way, have you ever heard of a "cat"apult?

I have not had too much trouble with cats, yet. However, My dog did find the road wheel that I was looking for one time. The only problem was there was only a quarter of it left when I found it. Heavy teeth marks on what was left.

I guess I'm also lucky too when it comes to my feline. Like Redeye's mine's "a fat lazy one and doesn't move if her ass was on fire" unless food's involved. In my modelling area, she'll curl up on my chair (until she sees the giant a$$ of doom looming overhead, then she moves!) or she'll lay on the floor nearby like a dog until bed time, when she gets up on her hind legs, paws my leg and reminds me it's time to pack up for the night!
