It seems there is no escape for me. I just have to do that dio about Finnish guys warming up a tent to have a sauna...with a guy or two rushing out of tent in agony because of the heat...maybe a sergeant approaching:"And what exactly you think you are doing?"
We had those paper covers with bee wax to cover the shells in artillery...when you put a couple of those in the pot in the tent....the tent will heat up all the way to 90 C!
And the exhaust pipe will glow red!
One question: Does anybody make figs (1:35) with upper torso naked?

Toni,
Yes!!
Verlinden have a few, and also, you could get a Praiser or any other nude mannequin and sculpt what ever clothes they are wearing!

Verlinden has a set of germns crossing a river (only the torso is visible). But that's only an exemple.
You must be careful with verlinden figures because they are slightly bigger than the figures from other
brands (some say they are closer to 1/32nd). So if you want to mate a verlinden torso with legs from
another company, you'd better check

Does Preiser still make / offer their figures in 1:32 or 1:35? Anyone got a source?
As for the Verlinden figures - I think it has more to do with the individual figure... some of mine seem larger than "standard" 1:35 - but others seem smaller too... guess that's to be expected, as many of his figures are made by a variety of sculptors. I happen to have the wading germans, and also have a very rare set of the "bathing GI's" which shows three guys and a woman who are obviously skinny-dipping. I am working on a MASH 4077 kinda concept, and was going to use them in that capacity - perhaps swimming in a nearby water tower.

They are all huge, hairy, fierce Vikings!!
I´m sorry to disappoint you Anders, but vikings did not come from Finland but from Sweden, Norway, Denmark... If you ever think about sculpting Finnish soldiers, you better get your references straight, you..!!
A Finnish soldier has the legs of Schwartzenegger, butt of Mel Gibson, upper torso of Brad Pitt 10 years ago, face of Colin Farrell with eyes of John Malkovich, teeth of James Coburn and charisma of Sean Connery.
The basic armament should include a sawed two-barrel shotgun and lots of booze.
Feel free to ask any questions if you need some more detail info. I´ll be glad to help out a friend! #:-)

...wait a minute, I was looking through my history books and, are you sure it's not; the legs of Pee Wee Herman, the butt of John Goodman, the upper torso of Strom Thurman 10 years ago, face of John Malkovich with the eyes of Marty Feldman, teeth of Nosforatu and the charisma of Hannibal Lecter?

Hahaaa! I got what I needed: a few finnish RK62 assault rifles for the dio(anyone interested in 50 spare AK series gun variants, just PM me!)
I found great Hornet resin heads for two exhausted guys fleeing from tent sauna. All I will have to do is to sculpt the two figures...no luck in finding figures with naked upper torso...
I´m still thinking about a lieutenant marching in the scene...

Needless to say, I was too lazy to actually sculpt the figures.
I bought a Tamiya German Mortar team, it had two figures I´m gonna use as a base. I can use the lower torsos with minor carving and the body positions are exactly what I was looking for! I thought about roughly carving off the clothing of the upper torsos and shaping the muscles with milliput.
The other guy is going to have a pot belly.
The tent material is making me trouble. I tried regular kitchen plastic and it gives very fine drapery and looks real good. The problem is durability. It just tears apart too easily. Is there any way to strenghten this material, without losing the flexibility? I tried varnish and acrylic paint, no luck...

Hola Pal,
First of all LOL at your description, treads are more correct (lol).
For the tent, do toilet paper with water and white glue. And if you want the finish of the plastic just glue the plastic to the paper tent :-)

Morjens Anders!
And thanks for the tip...
When oh when will I learn that the best solutions lay around at home, all the time... I guess you become so blind to everyday stuff that you don´t realize it´s right there!
I´m sure it will work...

Hej Envar
Tamiya have a british 25pdr field gun with crew (T35046), 3 of whom have upper torsos naked and all wearing shorts. [see pic on great model webstore] Could be modified for your use. Maybe a bit of bashing between both kits and figures could solve the problem.
I have this kit and would be willing to swap the figures for a seated German driver and a passanger, african campaign.
Either way, hope this helps.

Yeah Sarge, I noticed that kit in the shop. I just didn´t find it reasonable to buy the whole kit just because of those two guys...(well, I bought the German mortar team anyway)
Of course, I would make some kind of exchange, if I have anything you would like to have. How about 48 pieces of different AK variant machine guns? A german mortar team minus two guys? Two pairs of skis? My hardly-used football shoes? 98 cm of brass wire?

Ha ha. Alas all Iam looking for is a seated German driver and a passanger for a Horch. (African campaign) Dont really care what company make them.
Maybe somebody else wants your football boots and will swap me the 2 germans for the boots?

Toni,
I would gladly take those AK's off your hands. Can't help with the figures, but let me know if there is anything else you need and I would be glad to do a swap. Also, it is better to use facial tissue for the tent. Toilet paper tends to dissolve when it becomes wet and is very hard to work with.

Greetings HeavyArty!
At last we have some REAL artillery men around here! Snif...
The AK pack I have is the Dragon AK-47/74 family part 2 in 1:35. The only pieces I absolutely need are the two Finnish RK62 rifles. I´ll think of something, I know already that I will have to build all the equipment from scratch....hmmm you don´t have any modern kevlar helmets?

Finnish army uses the RKm 62-76T (type according to the package).
I think I´m gonna build the basic equipment for 2-3 guys. Meaning equipment vests, helmets and backpacks. Oh and I need an axe and a shovel also!
I´m just beginning the build so I´m not 100% sure of anything yet...

Toni,
I can come up with an ax, a shovel , and 3 helmets for the package of AKs. Does that sound like a deal?

Just something else........ on the tent issue. The best tissue I have seen for this is the stuff new shoes are stuffed with. Its a bit like wax paper without the wax if yu know what I mean. Some stores use this stuff for gift wrapping also. Try a souvenier shop or expensive glassware/china store
