Is this Panzer IV a D or E it looks like a D but the copula drum is throwing me off looks more like an E.
Just bought the old Dragon 3in1 ausf D kit quite cheap and would like to know if I could build this vehicle from the kit?
Cheers
Karl

I think it's an Ausf. D. There is more space between the top of the observation ports and the top of the cupola on the D than the E. Plus it still has the little conical cover over the signal port on the turret roof.

It's a D. Note the early sprocket ring and the brake hatch hinges.

Thanks for confirming it's a D.
Also the turret stowage bin got me thinking it might of been an E.
I'm guessing the number is 402 in yellow but I found a colour plate of it and the numbers were in blue.
Thanks
Karl

Colour photo or colour painting? Colour paintings are just the artist's impression, based on evidence of variable veracity, of what the original looked like. There have been some very suspect pieces of tank artwork over the years, some of which directly contradict each other, so who is to say that your interpretation is less valid than theirs unless you know the evidence they used for blue?
