Well, here is the finished diorama and just in the nick of time too. The contest I wanted to take this to is two days from now!
I have included here a ton of images of the finished product. Now I just have to figure out where I am going to put this thing. I had originally started this for a client but he decided to go with a totally different concept so I modified the project to fit the story line that I liked and here it is. 3 feet long and over 1 foot deep, this is the biggest self contained diorama I have ever built.
I think I will start on something really really small next.... I am done with large projects for a while. :^)
Jim's Note: Sorry the images are no longer on Dana's server. I think he has them on a Lycos account. Please check here:

DGeraths, that is the best dio I have seen.
In every single detail, there´s nothing that could have been done better. You have an unusual touch for balance both in colouring and layout, not to mention the melancholy. And the figures...unbelievable!
You´ll have my next month´s vote for this.
Inspiring. Excellent.

Wow. That is great work! :-)
The painting is great, all of the tones and shades look like they go together. Awesome detail on the Dragon Wagon, the burnt out Sherman is realistic.
Great job DG! Thanks for sharing!

Excellent effort!
I will be very surprised if you don't earn an award this such a grand and well executed subject. I especially like the job you did on the figures - outstanding! Given that the figures will usually be the make or break point of any diorama, yours insure that it is indeed among the 'make' it a winner category.
My advance congratulations on winning an award!

FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great weathering techniques. You have really captured
the reality of a W.W.II enviroment with the town being in ruins.
DW & figures - Excellent work !

You've excelled in all the aspects; the vehicles, the figures and the base. It all ties in nicely as well.
How'd you do the leather on the crew jackets?

Well, first I sanded down leather from an old hacket until it was about as thin as rice paper. Then I took the sewing machine out of my wife's dollhouse and a magnifying glass and.......

Actually, that is not leather, those are M-42 jackets that are a khaki color. The photos make them look darker than they really are. It was done in three shades of color. Dark brown base coat, heavy dry brush of khaki and then a light dry brush of a lightened shade of khaki.
So is this the paleoartist Bob Morales?

I worship your great skillfulness:::::::::::::bowing down in worship::::::::::::::::::::::The whole thing looks fantastic. The figures are tremendous. And the ruins in the background help give the dio a great sense of setting. Great Job!!!!! :-) :-)

unfortunately for all of us, no. Although I've been called a dinosaur on occasion by some of my soccer players!

Excellent! I love the way you captured the action with the guy feeding cable and especially the soldier writing on the side of the hulk! You really did that kit justice. I guess I better put off my DW till I improve my skills.
