Hi, I have started modelling after doing it as a kid. I just got an airbrush and a kit and I have a few questions.
1- I have read that I can thin Tamyia paint with 91% isopropyl alcohol. I seem to only find 70% here in canada? Can I use it? or maybe I can find it elsewhere in Canada?
2- Is there a similar trick for Model Master Acrylics.
3- I am looking for an alternative to the Tamyia AS-8 Navy Blue for late WWII corsair as I want to use my airbrush. In addition to Tamyia, I have easy access to MM (both acrylics and enamels), Gunze Sangyo (acrylics) and Humbrol. I would prefer acrylics.
Thanks in advance

Hello newcomer and welcome aboard on the ship!! Maybe you would like to take a few seconds in the introduction forum and let us know something about you!!!
Concerning the colours id say that if you have easy acces to MM acrylic paints use them instead of tamiya , and get supplementary colours that MM doesnt have from Gunze . I finde the MM to have finer pigment and in general beahve better and have better drying times. But this is only personal opinion. Other paint experts can help u and also read a thread that is in this forum about it .

Hi j_Iacouille, welcome to Armorama. I personally like Tamiya and you can try the 70% stuff you get up north. It should work also. Another thing you can use is Windex window cleaner, or something like it. The blue doesn't bother the paint and it's pretty cheap. We have stores down here called .99 cents stores, where everything is .99 cents. If you have things like that up there look for it there.

I found using winddex as a thinner for tamiya paint that it will not stay mixed properly. I have gone to using the alcohol. I cannot comment on MM paints as I cannot get them here in Australia. I use Tamiya both enamel and acrylics and Humbrol enamels. The acrylics tend to dry out to quick here due to the heat so it is mainly the enamels I use now.

I tried 70% isopropyl (the one you buy at Jean-Coutu) with PollyS acrylic paint and it was working well, so I guess it would work with Tamiya acrylic too!
