I have Tamiya's M247 and want to build a hypothetical version from Desert Storm. Imagine it hadn't been a POS and the Army had actually accepted it into service.
Since all we have are photos of the prototypes...gimme some ideas on what mods would have been added after it entered service. I am planning on adding a Stinger launcher to the right turret side from the Humvee Avenger, an M60 on a pintle in front of the CC's hatch, and unarmored side-skirts.
Any other plausible changes/additions? I know about all the accuracy issues with the kit and will be fixing alot of them, and I have a ton of interior photos so I will be opening the turret up also.
Thanks,
Dave

ERA panels, Air Conditioning Unit, have fun with it!

Maybe twin 35mm Oerlikon guns in place of the 40mm tubes.

Put a mine plow on it. Maybe it would have been good for that.
Or a Running Chef Trailer.

If it had been fielded, by ODS it most likely would have been on an M60 chassis by that time, similar to an M60 AVLB, M60 AVLM, M720 CEV, etc...

I had this same train of thought a few years ago and actually sketched out an evolution of sorts. My "M247A1" would have upgraded to the AVDS-1790-8 or -9A engine to increase mobility, incorporated hydrogas suspension units on the #1, 2, and #6 torsion bar stations, and packed a supplemental stinger 4 pack launcher. Additionally, stowage would have become an issue if the york had ever been fielded, because there wasn't a provision for crew gear. Never really figured out where that bustle rack would go. I also theorized replacing the problematic APG-66 with the APG-73 and changing the antenna cover.

I'm thinking of staying with the M48 hull (with the eduard engine deck) to portray "Budget Constraints" keeping more modern hulls.
If the Army had AVDS 1790-8 engines handy, and with beefed up suspension (yeah I know...what about the budget constraints? LOL)

Dave,
I would agree with your keeping of the M48 hull. Supposedly, it was pretty nimble when engined with the AVDS 1790-8.

An armament upgrade over the 40mm might be a couple of M242 Bushmaster 25mm chainguns to go along with a Stinger 4 pack. ERA might be an attractive option also

John
