Hi Guys,

I am facing a bit of a dilemma here...

I usually use satin paint or varnish for the base color, then I apply pinwash, filters, etc. But my experience is that filters work better on matt surfaces. And obviously washes work better on satin/gloss. How this contradiction could be solved?

This issue has just arised now, as now I need an absolutely matt finish on my kit, so somehow I need to get rid of the slightly satin appearance of the filters. Any pointers? As far as I know flat varnish would have a negative effect on the results achieved through filtering, but never actually tried...

Thanks!

Well, filters work best on a satin finish actually. matte surface "soaks" it up too much, you want it to be more subtle and satin gives you more room to apply more layers of filters if needed. and pin wash should be ok on a satin too if you don`t want to work layered

as far as the flat finish goes, go ahead, it should not ruin anything. except if you applied pigments, those do get toned down really hard
