Hey,
I stumbled upon this picture but not being a Russian armor expert I kind of have problems identifying the exact vehicle type. My best guess is it's a BTR-60 but which version exactly?
Also, the gun seems to be a ZSU-23, right?

Thanks a bunch!
Cristian

Cristian, that actually looks like a BTR-70. Longer in the back end than a -60. And that does appear to be twin 23's on the turret. That would be a cool build.

Ian

BTR-70 for sure, single side access door gives it away. The gun is a ZU-23, ZSU-23 is a self propelled AA gun.

You can also notice the turret armor made with welded BMP-2 hull top access hatches...I guess this one is Afghan.
Here's a similar Afghan combo based on a BTR-60PB (also used by Iran) :

To get back to this... Is anybody aware of a BTR-70 kit with Afghan decals in 1:35?
Thanks!

Hello Cristian,
I'm building this subject right now using DMLs old BTR-70 kit and a resin ZU-23-2 from Storm Miniatures, although if I was starting it today I'd go with Trumpeter for both.
This is the camo scheme I'll be attempting

That's a cool camo scheme, no doubt!
What decals are you planning to use? Also, do you happen to have more reference images?
Thanks!
Cristian

I don't think I'll be putting any markings on this one.
Bison or Star decals may have something appropriate for ANA or the like if you're so inclined.

Cristian,
sorry, I missed that you had asked about additional refs .
This is the website where I first saw the photo
http://panzer35.ru/forum/22-2260-1 , the third response down had a link to a very useful shot from behind but the link seems to be broken.
Here's another take on the camo scheme

I can hardly believe it but I managed to find the second shot from behind !
http://s148.photobucket.com/user/Revi_photos/media/PICT0252.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2Now I see I can get away with some broken weld beads rather than having to model the hinges on the BMP hatch armor .

Thank you so much, Sean! These will certainly help!
WIll you be hand-painting the camo or do you have a secret technique?

My first thought was to try applying it freehand but I'm not sure my airbrush skills are up to it. Masking may be a workable option as shown here to great effect
