The Australian Army’s new soldier combat ensemble, an essential component of the Plan Beersheba modernisation program, will roll out to 1st Brigade in Darwin in May 2015. Gear includes the new Australian multicam camouflage uniform
designed in response to 13 years of continuous operations and observations of Army uniforms in harsh environments, and development and testing equipment in the field. The ensemble also includes new body armour, pouches and field packs.

The 1st Brigade, based at Robertson Barracks in Darwin, is one of three Australian Army combat brigades. Under the Australian Army’s modernisation program, Plan Beersheba, the 1st Brigade will consist of a headquarters, an armoured cavalry regiment, two standard infantry battalions, an artillery regiment, a combat engineer regiment, a combat service support battalion and a combat signals regiment. The brigade is at the forefront of Australia’s operational commitments around the world with recent deployments to Timor-Leste, Afghanistan and Iraq.

21,000 sets of equipment will be delivered across the Australian Defence Force. In addition to Australian Army soldiers, Royal Australian Air Force airfield defence guards and Royal Australian Navy boarding parties and clearance divers will be issued the new gear.

We have been using multicam for years with our SASR and SF guys. This is "Aussie" multicam. You can see the difference between standard and the Aussie version better from the rear view. Uniform vs packs.

Yes, I know... many SF around the globe chose Multicam long time ago. Now with US and Brits, Aussie Army decided to field their version as well. I like the Multicam pattern, but I admit having a soft spot for jelly bean camo.

Looking good, but I'd hate to see every Western army adopt some kind of multicam. I always loved recognising the provenience of tropps by their camouflage pattern...

Thanks. I knew "bunnies" were involved in the local slang but couldn't remember the exact term.

Cheers,

I have a pair of multicam ACUs. Great clothes. Great pattern. Makes anyone very tough to see almost anywhere. I also tried to paint the Crye version once. Tough to paint for me. I think the Navy's new NWU uniforms, the Marines MARPAT and Canadian's CADPAT (so, in general, the digitized patterns) would be tougher to paint. I also German Flecktarn would be tougher..
