Hi everyone, today I would like to present you my Afghan insurgent figures . Usually I really enjoy painting figures from the Second World War period. However this week I've decided to try something new and came up with this 1/35 Mujahideen figures from ICM. The full name of this kit is Anti-Terror Operations in Afghanistan (2001). This kit actually comes with two sets of figures, the US soldiers and the Afghan Mujahideen, but I decided to use the US figures in another diorama. I have started building the figures by detaching from the sprues and assembling together. After that I have filled the gaps in between the pieces with Tamiya's white putty. Then I've proceeded with coating the figures with flat black. Since these figures do not actually belong to an official military group, I've thought maybe I could use my creativity and paint them in different colors, which I think turned out great. To paint the figures I have used various colors from Vallejo. Finally I've prepared the arms of the fighters and prepared riffle slings from masking tapes.

I think ICM did a good job with these figures. Even though they are not high in detail, they are nicely molded and provide a great variety. As you can see from the pictures, one of the figures is carrying an AK-47 assault rifle, one of them is carrying a Dragunov Sniper Rifle, one of them is carrying a Stinger to shoot out helicopters and one of them is picking up an M16 rifle from the ground that was probably dropped by the US soldiers.

I hope you liked the results. If you have any suggestions or tips or me please share them in the comments section below.

Ali, nice work. You made them look pretty darn good considering the age and the soft detail. They are a really old kit, I think they first came out in the '90s when ICM was on its' first go round IIRC. The guy with the MANPAD is actually carrying a Russian SA-7, it's older technology than the Stinger. By the way, welcome to the group, I just realized you were a new guy. This is a good group of folks on here with a wealth of knowledge and experience, you'll like it here.

Hi John, nice to meet with you.

I am glad that you liked the figures. I am still a beginner in this hobby and these ones are my best so far I am looking forward to interact more in this forum to learn a few tricks.

Also thank you for mentioning the difference in arms. I didn't realize that it was a SA-7. I think I have to make my homework better next time.

Cheers!

Welcome Ali! I have two copies of this set and am thinking of kit bashing with Hornet heads and Live Resin weapons. Great to see your work and hope to see more.

Hi Ali,
Nice to see you here besides FigurinIstanbul. You made a great job on these old figures. I liked your paintwork but toning flesh parts and clothing in different tones would give a depth to your painting, at least washes will help.
keep safe

Hi there S Gillespie! I think that's a great idea to use custom heads (as long as they match with their outfit and everything) and especially resin weapons because frankly I think the weapons in this kit are not doing justice to the rest of the figures. I am definitely looking forward to seeing your version of it. Cheers!
