Salute comrades,
I am looking for an online resource about colors of soils of different battlefields. I am currently doing a small Berlin 1945 vignette and I would like to know the exact tone and consistency of the soil. Please inform me if you know about a website with this information or if you know from your own experience based on a similar case.
Regards, Zverko

Hi,
You might want to check with the local agricultural agencies' websites. There should be quite detailed soil maps available for most of Europe. Once you know the predominant soil type, you can learn about its colour and texture. Or, just search for pictures of farms in that area so you can see what the soil looks like.
Cheers,
James

The battle of Berlin was an all out fight. There was not much of the city that was not destroyed. With that in mind I don't think you would have to worry about soil color, for most of the ground would be covered in ruble. For what little dirt that could be seen you can't go wrong with a grey concrete dust. I hope this helps
