while I'm not familiar with what's available in the way of accessories/painting masks for Gundam stuff I'm pretty sure it's hand painted camouflage over probably a sprayed base. Most likely painted first then assembled. Not too difficult, certainly a little less complex than painting camouflaged figures/uniforms.

Although i havent done it, i recently read a how to on it in Mig Jimenez FAQ 1. It was done with humbrol maskel as i remember. basically spray base colour, mask, spray second, remove mask, mask again, spray 3rd colour etc etc

the Light Division had marched forty two hilly miles in twenty six hours and had arrived in good order, weapons primed and ready to fight.

to me, it looks like it may be painted with a masking material. seems complicated, but really isnt. it could be done with a brush, probably quite easily. looking at the edges, the edtes are too neat, rounded, etc to be a brush, imo. probably done with a liquid mask, with 3 different color layers.

a very simple method that creates similar pattern, is torn paper, tear pieces of paper by hand to the layout you need and use it is a mask, it will create random pattern. You can play with the type of paper to create different edges.
On the pics some parts of the pattern looks more rugged, than others, could be combined with liquid mask.
