I've seen those French W15Ts a lot, but I've always wondered what the little tires are for on the front? Please don't tell me those are the spares.

I guess they are to prevent the nose of the truck sticking itself into the ground when reaching the bottom of a steep slope.

Yes, the purpose of these wheels was the same as for the unditching roller fitted to the M3 Scout car.
