Prior to the adoption of the ACU in 2004, would soldiers operating at the NTC (Fort Irwin) have worn the woodlands pattern BDU or the desert pattern (or a mix of both)? I assume that tank maintenance crew would have worn the one-piece overalls ... again would this have been a sand colour or an olive drab?

In 1996 and 1999, my unit wore Woodland BDUs at NTC. I was Light Infantry. The tankers we linked up with wore the OD CVC Coveralls.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
James

Rotational units, BLUFOR, wore Woodland BDUs. Tankers wore either Woodland BDUs or OD Green CVC uniforms.
The 11 ACR OPFOR, enemy players, wore/wear 3-color DCUs.
