would this be for a M1A1, iraq 03-4. I've got verlinden's tank crew which are nice, but wondering if there's something better, besides alpine whose fig's are outside the tank

You would have to do alot of conversion sculpting work to backdate them to 03-04. The ACU uniform came out in 2005 and these guys are wearing the OTV body armor which was not available until 2007 I think. Back in 04-05 we still wore the standard IBA with the front flap opening.
The poses are good if you want to do the work to backdate them.
Cheers,
James

Vietnam is more my area of specialty when it comes to figures, but I did serve in both Iraq and Afghanistan, so I think I can give some advice upon seeing the various figures available.
There is a Verlinden crew that are wearing CVC coveralls and are wearing the Interceptor IBA which would be correct for that time period. Pretty much any crew figures you can find on the internet that are wearing the IBA would work. You might have to cut the calf pocket off if they are wearing ACUs and the IBA, but that is an easy fix if the pose fits what you want to do with the figures.
I hope that helps a bit.
Cheers,
James

That is one of them. This is another that I was thinking of:
https://www.verlindenonline.com/1-35-scale-figures/iraq-afghanistan-figures/1-35-us-tank-crew-iraq-2-figures-2412.html
or this one:

or this one:

or this one:
https://www.verlindenonline.com/1-35-scale-figures/iraq-afghanistan-figures/1-35-loading-ammo-iraq-2-figures-2314.html
depending on what you want the crew to be doing. MasterBox also has a set of Tankers who are wearing the spall vest. There may have been some crewmen that wore that initially, but quickly went to the IBA once available.
I hope you find the figures that best suit what you want the figures to be doing.
Cheers,
James
