Hey all,

Been a while. I'm working on a new exhibit on the C-RAM system and I'm building a model to go along with it. I've got the Hobby Fan CIWS kit and it's been pretty good overall. Great detail right out of the box and it is pretty well right on the button as far as scale goes.

I've actually gotten to measure a trailer now and I've started the scratchbuild. The issue I'm having as I get this moving forward is, where do I find civilian 36" diameter tires for a lowboy trailer? Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The tires for the M1000 HETS trailer my work.

There are a bunch of AM sets of just the trailer tires. All the ones I am seeing do not include the wheels though, just the tires.

Hey Jon,

I don't remember what the trailer wheels and tires look like from the pictures you took and the one's the unit gave you. Do you think these may work?

You could probably use the tires/wheels off a 1/32 truck kit as well. Something like this:

It looks like the C-RAM trailer uses standard civilian truck tires/wheels.

You need Bud two hole wheels. You can..
A. Get a hold of Miniman Factory, They make a resin M915 with those wheels, he will sell you a set.
2. Look on Ebay for a First Gear Dicast truck, They make an International bucket truck that has wheels like that and you can cast copies.
The wheels on the Monogram snap tite trucks are not even closes to being right for any truck, besides being chrome and round.

I don't think the Centurion C-RAM ever went past the test phase and was not fielded. I know I have never seen one, only the trailer-mounted version which was all over Iraq and A'stan.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm modeling a particular gun which intercepted the 122mm rocket that I have a chunk of. I just went and measured an actual trailer yesterday and realized that the wheels might prove difficult. Gino's right, they're standard civilian wheels and tires, 36" in diameter. The setup in the photo looks like a prototype. The gun support frame is completely different from the production model, as are a lot of the boxes and doohickeys.

I'll see about checking out Miniman Factory and if that fails, I'll look at picking up that Peterbilt kit. Looks like it may just do the trick.

GREAT PROGRESS!!! I am curious, do you intent to set it into a field environment of Hescos and C-wire? I was at FOB Shank last year and there were a fair amount of these things in place ( used to call it Rocket City). Unfortunately, the "no photography" sign was enough for me. This was as close as I would photo, and its still probably enough OPSEC for some..... but here it is .

Brian,

It'll be surrounded by Hescos and will be a full diorama with figures (done by James O'Leary and they're phenomenal!). I've got a few hundred shots from 2-44's deployment last year.
