Hi Les,

I'd wash it with a reddish-brown and drybrush it with a buff.

AMMO of MiG as well as AK Interactive both make a pre-mixed wash to be used on on modern US sand colored vehicles. make sure you have sealed the paint with an acrylic clear gloss before applying the wash. You can thin the paint further and clean up the wash with their white spirit or peerless thinner.

Personally, I make a wash from Grumbacher Raw Umber artist olis, thinned with turpenoid.

For dry brushing, mix your base color with a little white.

If you are doing a straight desert setting for it then a series of washes with varying tones of brown and yellow will work well for washes. Layer them up and you can use the washes as "filters" in places too. For dry brushing, assume that all vehicles leave the factory in either NATO Green or Sand. You can do you chipping with NATO green and or some dark browns and metallic, but I would use the metallic sparingly, a little goes a long way. One piece of advice, go easy on the rust, most people over do it. Cheers.
