Hi guys

I posted this question about a week or so ago, and got no response #:-) I'm hoping for better luck this time because I need an answer and can't seem to find it any where else. I need to know the color of the brick roads in the Arnhen area during the Market Garden op. Or just a basic color for such a road will do.

Thanks in advance

You might try a dark red/ brown with a wash of raw umber... I would think anyway. Just basing this on supposition.

I'll investigate, but I think that Nate's answer is very close to the truth...

I'll dive into this and come back with the answer this weekend.

I checked a dio in verlindens showcase and some photos of the dio from Euro militarie 2003 (if i remember right Eagle has posted these photos of this dio before), the bricks on the road are in lighter tones than the ones in buildings

Hi All.. This is a pic of the street section im planning
on using for my RMG dio.. I too am curious about the
color of the streets in that area,, this is supposed to be
a side street but had to take a guess at the color.
These colors are ceramcoat brown iron oxide with
ceramcoat georgia clay for highlights.. then a dark brown
wash.. Input needed.. too light or dark.. too orange or
not red enough? Hopefully its in the ballpark. Thanks

Wolfsix,

all my reference photos show the bricks of Arnhem to be... light gray, dark gray, and medium gray. Seems to be a few black and a few white ones thrown in as well.

here's some decent reference pics. All the modern ones show paved roads, though (dern!)

There's also a "Market Garden: Then and Now" book available for sale...

Jackpot! I found this site. It's someone's travelouge from their visit to Arnhem's Open Air Museum... Anyway, it shows, that the old photos are correct! The bricks are shades of gray!

I've been asking a couple of people, but the image provided bij Kancali is almost spot on. Though there are many roads wityh different stones, or different patterns, this image represents the most common streets in and near Arnhem. Both colour and pattern are near perfection. Maybe the Dutch stones are a bit longer as the ones that are shown in the picture.
