What was the model of the tank in the wonderful Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade film? I have an idea...I´m thinking about sculpting something and good ol´Indy would be worth it for sure! Is that tank available..looks like a ww1 tank to me but I´m no expert on this..Does anyone have a clue? Is that tank available in 1:35?

The tank was a WW1 design, America's answer to the Mk.IV,i beleive it was called the Liberty tank. Got some pics in a book somewhere,i'll dig them up for you.

Thomas,
At first I was going to say that I remember it being somewhat fictional. But now I remember that the tank was built from scratch, which was what was confusing me. Apparently Lucasfilm says it was patterned of a German Mark VII. But this site seems to think it's more like a Mark VIII.

The tank entered service in 1920 with the US army, only 100 were built and were used in the US 67th Armored regt. until 1932.
90 were sold to Canada in the early part of WW2 for training at scrap value where they formed the basisof General Worthington's Tank Corps.
A reference guide is "The Illustrated Directory of Tanks of The World", by Salamander Books Ltd.
This book is great for a quick reference on armor from WW1 to modern day
The only thing that they added to the tank was the turret as the original had no moving turret.

They must really souped up the Liberty to make it go. As I recall they were 15MPH vehicles at best. Am I correct here. Emhar had a series (Tadpole, Mark VII male and female) in 1/35. I thought they were fairly decent models to build. I did their Whippet also. Seem the worse part was their track. Never quite fit. You can also get the German WW I tank through Tauro. They also made an Italian version of the French FT-17 as I recall.

They must have spruced the engine up a little ,but the British Mk.IV only had a
6 cylinder inline engine which gave it a speed of 3.7 mph were as the Liberty
had a Liberty V-12 inline aircraft engine which gave it a road speed of 6.5mph
but the speed at which it moved in the movie, they had to have done something to it.

Agree, that baby can not turn on a dime and certainly never even came close to the speed demon in flick. But, that's Hollywood. Darn entertaining movie.

According to the book "From Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives", the tank is a replica of a Mark 7 German tank from WW I. The one used for filming was a replica of the tank, made of steel. It was 36 feet long and weighed 29 tons.
Anybody got a link to a place where I can get the model?

Another company that makes WWI era tanks in 1/35 besides Emhar and Taurus is Interus. They currently only have a British Mark V "Composite", but should be coming out with more. I've seen this kit and it is definately a nice build with a lot of detail so maybe they will do an Indy tank.
