hello guys
i am john. i just got a small 1/76 Airfix Saladin Mk2.
the kit is very simple only 45 parts.
i like to add more details to this kit and has some questions below
1) how do i drill out the co-axial MG? it is very small less than 1mm to drill hollow...
2) is there any 0.3 browning MG on the market? i only see 0.5 browning MG around...
3)how do i replace those thick radio antenna?
4)how do i make those Rolled Tarpaulins?
5)is it possible to make a jerry can?
thanks

Hi Joohn.
!. You can use a new #11 x-acto blade to carefully drill out the end of the kit barrel or, there are aftermarket .30cal barrels made by Sgts Mess. Google for a supplier near you.
2. Same company makes .30 cal mg for vehicles.
3. Use stretched sprue or thin brass wire. Clip off thick antenna, drill new hole in base insert wire. Cut to length.
4. Rolled tarps can be made from two-part epoxy putty or rolled tissue.
5. Yes, a jerry can may be scratched but there are aftermarket resin sets available. CMK is one manufacturer. Google search for a retail supplier.

Antenna can also be made with a nylon paint brush bristle.

hi guys
thanks for advice. most probably i will do a 2-tone desert camo for Oman in middle east.
i see that Wee Models has some white metal details for this Saladin Airfix kit. i am not sure if white metal is easy to work with like easy to paint and glued? i really hate PE parts...
Wheels and Suspension set for Saladin and Saracen kits
Bergen Pack set
Jerry cans
0.50Cal MG with aircraft barrel - not sure if this 0.5MG is ok to use on saladin?
thanks

Thanks, John
I've not seen the parts of Wee Model here in Tokyo.
I used some pieces of small pipe, thin wires, and many tiny chips of plastic paper.
Extra parts are two rolls of something like sleeping bag by Goffy Model.
Sorry I forget colors on it exactly, something blueish dark gray, dry-blushed with GSI Creos "Mr.Color" paint. on flat black base.
I drilled co-ax gun using pin vice, and replaced a barrel of another .30cal with brass pipe.
I'm looking forward to see your model built with your Wee Model parts set.
Regards,
Asan

Looking forward to your Sally John! I have a Scorpion from Airfix in the stash. I will end up doing one from the Falklands campaign. Love these little Brit Scouts!

hi guys
yes Saladin looks cool for a heavy armed armor car(wheels).
i actually looked at other armor cars, but very few in 1/72-1/76 scale except those WW2 ones.
the ones avaliable are Saladin, Panhard AML-90, Panhard ERC-90.
so there are very few choices...
anyway only the Saladin and Panhard AML 90 see alot of combat in middle-east and africa. the Panhard ERC-90 is a pretty new AFV and see little combat...
thanks

hi guys
i am going to start building the 1/76 airfix saladin soon...
i look at some saladin pictures on the internet and looks like the below saladin belongs to Jordan army in the six-day-war and captured by Israel.
on thing not too sure is the camo color. is it a type of green or grey? thanks

hi guys,
Finally!!! completed this 1/76 Airfix Saladin Mk2. i build it OOB. i only drill hollow the 76mm main gun, replaced the stumpy radio antennas and realigned the wheels to give some clearance between the hull and the wheels. i also added some homemade stowage from epoxy putty, example jerry can, rolled canvas, backpack...
this is my 2nd completed model kit and 1st time brush painting a camo pattern. the decals are missing in this kit... still hoping to find them...
i hope it looks decent... thank you guys.
