great job and proof one doesn't always need to spend a fortune on PE and after market sets. A clean build with an excellent paint & weathering finish can still result in a fine looking display.

Lovely job to an old, tired, kit. It's nice to see patience expended on OOB once again...refreshing. Excellent weathering.

BUT...

I can't do that anymore... the aftermarket gods zapped me into goobering up every kit I touch today with their sexy, just gotta have, dress up kits/PE/barrels/tracks, etc. I've been bamboozled into spending $100 or more on updating $10 kits!

Oh how I remember the days when things were so simple and models in the box was all there was!

Not me. I'm a low budget model builder with limited skills and if it can't be done with very basic materials like some wire and a little bit of card, it doesn't get done. I'll spend a few bucks for extra stowage because those sets I can usually stretch over a couple of kits. I love going back to the old kits from 30-40 kits and use today's weathering techniques on them. Which is funny, because Mig et al have brought weathering full circle back to Shep Paine's style of dirty, faded and banged up. One other note: I think model contest out of the box category needs to be changed to out-of-box from X number of years ago. All things being the same in finishing and painting, an out of box kit from the 1970s won't win against and out of box from the 2010s.

excellent work; I built this old kit some time ago and now I feel inspired to go back to it and beat it up a little more; thanks! and I agree with the whole OOB thing; I work on a budget too; lots of kits from contests or swap meets; with the right stuff they can look good w/out AM goodies
