Or, more correctly, 21cm Mörser. Takom is to release a 1/35 kit of this German heavy mortar, a huge piece of ordnance that saw service during the Great War.

I'm in the process of building this kit. Although the box art shows a shell there isn't one included. It's a minor fault for an otherwise wonderful kit.

I'm building this now, too. Back in the day I actually got Verlinden's "wad o' resin" of this gun together; and this kit falls together with impressive detail. A fun build, excellent molding and fit.

G'day fellas
Don't know if anybody's interested, but there is a 21cm Morser 16 in the Australian Armour & Artillery Museum in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

Matt, how does trail length and width of this kit compare to the Verlinden? Discussions elsewhere indicated that this kit had a markedly shorter and narrower trail than the Commander's Models kit as well as compared to a published set of drawings. That doesn't prove anything in and of itself, but the magnitude of the discrepancy is large enough to question the whole thing.

P.S.
Matt, there's a Morser 16 in Waterbury CT and a 16 and a 10 in MA. You could do the world a favor and measure one of them and compare it to the kit.

Matt, my understanding is the kit gives you both the early "short" barrel and the later "long" one.

Hi Bill, how's it going? Yes, the kit has short and long barrels. We are concerned about the Takom kit being undersized in the trail box and possibly whole kit.

Kurt, the Takom trail box is smaller in every dimension compared to the Verlinden gun. To my mind, that's not saying the Takom is wrong!
I have located the gun in Waterbury CT and will head there tomorrow with tape measure and camera. We will put a lock on this by tomorrow night.

Still out. Work prevented me from getting there Friday and it's been raining all weekend. Hopefully I'll get it Monday.

Rain? Rain?! You let yourself get stopped by a little rain? Why in my day, I climbed on tanks with an aluminum ladder during a thunderstorm. You kids today are soft!

That's just because aluminum is a poor conductor.

Here's the results: The Takom kit is dead on accurate compared to all actual measurements.
Wow. It's incredible that the drawing, the Verlinden kit, and the Commanders Models kit are so far off, but I'll bet the kits were derived from the drawing.
Thanks for doing this Matt. I wanted this kit but was holding off until the accuracy question was resolved. I was figuring in measuring one myself but the nearest piece to me is four hours away.
Thanks again,

Thank you, Matt, for taking the time out to measure the real gun. I'm very excited about this, as I find WW1 artillery far more interesting and compelling than the tanks, so this is great news for me & my stash.
I DO wish Takom would bring out WW1 versions of their Skoda siege howitzers.

You're welcome Bill. Once I found the gun, it was exciting to go over the real thing. I share your love of the big WWI artillery.
