Can anyone recommend a French commercial thinner for Tamiya acrylics. In the States I used lacquer thinner.

Thanks
Steve

Steve
Commercial thinner for Tamiya acrylics, I use alcohol 70% and they must have it at a local pharmacy in the Dordogne. No lacquer thinner for me

Ditto on the Isopropyl Alcohol. I"ve been using it to thin TAM paints for nearly 20 years and haven't had any issues with it.

"alcool ménager", one liter for a couple of euros in great surfaces, no prob with it (matt finish you don't get with x20A)

I have used ISO numerous times with good results but don't like the quick dry time. Tamiya brand thinner is also an obvious choice and should be available if the Tamiya paints are although it's overpriced considering what it actually is and that the results aren't any better than ISO. On a tip I switched to Mr. Color Self Leveling Thinner and will never go back. It's a lacquer thinner that also contains a retarder. I get perfectly smooth finishes everytime now and with the retarder I never get tip dry.I feel it gives even better results than Tamiya's very own thinner. Not sure if you can get it in France but if it's possible I highly recommend giving it a try.

There is a video on youtube where a guy from the UK makes his "homebrew" Tamiya thinner. It works. Initial costs are high, but you can refill a Tamiya X20 250ml bottle several times..

2/3 Distilled Water
1/3 99% IPA
A smidge or Flow Improver and Fluid Retarder..
