Aloha everyone!!!
Is it me or does it appear as if the Russians Summer uniforms are patterned after the French? I've been looking for figures that represent the modern Summer outfit but many of those on the market are all the heavy winter type. Can I use a mix of West and Russian gear?
Thank you in advance!!
Kurt

Hi Kurt- just wondering what sort of figures are you trying to represent?
Yes many of the modern Russian figs have heavier type 'winter' issue uniforms- particularly those of the 90s and early 2000s that are easily identifiable by the large wool collars on the jackets. Which summer uniforms are you talking about though?

Hi Karl,
I guess the lighter type I'm talking about are like those used by the airborne units in Afghanistan in the '80s. I understand that was the 80's and so the uniforms have presumably changed but something along those lines. The best example I can think of is the DML VDV set.

Ah- I see what you mean. That camouflage is called 'Flora' I guess it does look a little similar to the picture of the French military camo you posted. However there there are several different versions of Flora. Check out:
http://www.kamouflage.net/country/00156.php?page=1.
Bottom of page 1 has one of the Flora patterns and page 2 has several others. This was a very common pattern in the 90s and is still used today although I believe it is being phased out in favor of the new digital pattern. The uniform being worn in the photograph is based on a design that was first used in Afghanistan and is easily identifiable by the square pockets on each upper arm.
The armored vest being worn is, I think, the 6b23. There have been quite a few different armored vests since the 80s and most of the figures on the market will have whichever vest was most seen during that era- for instance a lot of the Russian figures depicting soldiers in the wars in Chechnya have the 6b3 vest.
