I'm not Darren, but.....
I've used it often for ground work and it does shrink a bit. I recommend that you apply it in thin layers, building on each layer until you get the thickness that you want.
I applied it in thick layers at the start and it took a long time to dry. When it did dry out, it shrank a bit, causing it to crack. That hasn't happened once since I began using thin layers. Perhaps 1/8 inch layer.

Yes, I have used it, mainly on smaller bases, since it does shrink a little and develops cracks. Here is an example of DAS clay for a small (1/48) Crusader desert base.
I usually use their Terracotta colored clay, so it is a little 'precolored'.

I use it for groundwork at times and it works pretty well. The larger the area to cover, the more chance for shrinking and cracks in my experience. However, it's easy to fill them in if needed. It works especially well for desert floor as the cracks are desired.

Used it once and it rolled up like a tube, Never tried it again since.
